Lou married his sweetheart, Hilda Saladino on January 27, 1951 at Our Lady of Grace Church, Chelsea, MA. The week after graduating from Revere High School in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving during World War II. After the war, Lou attended Boston University on the GI Bill, earning his BS in Education. He later earned his Masters degree in Educational Leadership from Suffolk University and continued to pursue his PhD from Harvard University. He had an illustrious career in education as a classroom teacher, then as a Principal in North Andover, MA, American School in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, the Morse Pond School Falmouth and the Lawrence School, Falmouth, MA. Upon retirement from public education, Lou worked with US Department of State placing and advising their vast American schools all over the world. He continued teaching as a visiting professor for several colleges with their programs in Central and South America into his early 90s. As an entrepreneur, he owned the Salt Water Tackle Box, a mail order business; LJ Fuccillo and Sons, a storage and large garage facility in Falmouth, MA; and International Educators Cooperative, a world wide teacher placement corporation. An avid athlete, he played football at the high school and college level. He later went on to be a successful High School and semi-pro football coach. His St. Mary’s of Brookline football team earned the Boston City championship in 1960.
Lou loved his family, always supporting his sons in their endeavors and then enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Football also brought joy to him. An original Boston Patriots fan in 1960 to the end. He enjoyed watching his son David and grandson’s Nicholas and Xander play football at Falmouth High School and Plymouth State College.
Surviving is his wife, Hilda of 73 years and sons Ronald (Nancy), Stephen (Linda), and David Fuccillo. Grandchildren Jeana (Andrew) Kempe, Salvatore (Jennifer) Fuccillo, Nicholas (Brooke) Fuccillo, Alexander (Jenna) Fuccillo, and Carmen Fuccillo. Great-grandchildren Avery and Anna Kempe; Isabella, Max and Carlotta Fuccillo; Delia, Rose and Theo Fuccillo; Naomi and Summer Fuccillo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carmen and Josephina (Giordano), step-mother Rose (D’Agostino), his sisters Louisa Fuller, Mary Oleksa, and brother Carmen Ronald Fuccillo.
Funeral mass arrangements are pending at St. John the Evangelist in Viera, FL and St. Anthony’s in East Falmouth, MA. Internment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
