Indian Harbour Beach
Huey B. Crocker, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 13, 2011, surrounded by members of his loving family, in Indian Harbour Beach. Huey was born in Coffee County, Alabama on April 3, 1923 to the late Joe T. and Maybelle Crocker.
Huey served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during World War II in England and France as a Field Medic.
After retiring from the USAF in 1963, Huey went to work for NASA and was intimately involved with the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo manned Space Programs. Huey received the prestigious Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Richard Nixon for his work on the Apollo XIII Mission Operations Team that "transformed potential tragedy into one of the most dramatic rescues of all time." Huey went on to win dozens of awards during his 15 years working with NASA.
Huey met Claudia Lenoir in 1945 while serving in France and went on to marry her in 1946. Huey and Claudia settled in Indian Harbour Beach in 1959 where they raised their two daughters and built a loving family.
Huey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claudia; two daughters, Mary Streiff and her husband, Ron, Sandy Brennan and her husband, Bruce; granddaughter, Toni Restrepo and her husband, Oscar; grandsons, Ronald Streiff and his wife, Kelly, and Christopher Streiff and his fiance, Wyndy; great-grandson, Roman Restrepo; and great-granddaughter, Angelica Restrepo; and his brother, Chester Crocker; and sister, Raynelle Kline.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 12:00 PM followed by a memorial service with military honors at 1:00 PM at Florida Memorial Funeral Home, in Rockledge.
