Our beloved family matriarch, Catherine (Katina) Sergis, of Rockledge, Florida, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2024. Catherine was born in Zourtsa, Greece, and the daughter of Nicholas and Georgia Caplanis. Her grandfather was a Greek Orthodox Priest and her father was a chanter in the church specializing in Byzantine music. Her family immigrated to the United States, in 1958. Catherine was a graduate of St. Basil’s Teaching Academy in Garrison, New York, and went on to teach Greek as a second language for many years in New York. It was during this time, that she met and married her husband of 52 years Peter Sergis. They later moved to Melbourne, Florida, where she was an active member of her church community at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church.
Catherine was an exceptional cook, and avid gardener. Catherine was predeceased by her husband Peter Sergis , and brother John Caplanis. Catherine is survived by her devoted children, Despina (Debbie) Grant and her husband Gary, Steven Sergis and his wife Tiffany, Niki Conti, her husband Steve; loving grandchildren Catie Dean, her husband Mason, Sydney Gunner, her husband Stewart, Christian Grant, Caterina Grant, Camden Conti and great-grandson, Carter Dean.
Visitation will be held on November 8, 2024, at 1:00 pm, St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, 5965 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida followed by Trisagion service at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Basil Academy (sbagoa.org). Saint Basil Academy is the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese’s Home for Children in Need.
