Catherine Pearl Franklin passed away on October 15th, 2022 at the age of 97. She was continuously surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in the moments leading up to her death.
Catherine (Kitty) was born April 20, 1925 in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, the daughter of late Gilbert Reginald Simpson & Elma Wright. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Franklin, her sisters, Dorothy, Blanch, Hyacinth, her brothers Ken and John and her step-son Wayne Franklin. Kitty is survived by her aunt Josie Ashton. She is also survived by her three children and their spouses; her two sons Rowan and his wife Aldyth Lyn, Gareth and his wife Winsome Falconer, and step-daughter Arlene and her husband Garry Dicks. Kitty’s children were all fruitful in their endeavors and provided her with nine grandchildren and eight great-grand children. Kitty too is survived by many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends in Jamaica and all over the United States.
In the late 60’s, she immigrated from Jamaica to Brooklyn, New York where she worked as a secretary at Workman Circle for many years. In 1973, she married the love of her life, Papa Ralph and enjoyed 41 wonderful years together. In 1984, Ralph and Kitty moved to Palm Bay, Florida, the sun-shine state, to enjoy their beautiful years of retirement. Some years after her husbands passing, she relocated to Houston, Texas in September 2017 where she enjoyed being with family.
Kitty always showed warm affection and compassion to her family and friends, especially on the domino table where she was never outwitted but was most generous to give LOVE. Kitty enjoyed many other pastimes as well. Word search puzzles kept her mind sharp, playing the famous “Agita, card game” kept her serious and agitated while brandy on the rocks kept her laughing and smiling. She also enjoyed her daily game shows, The Price is Right, Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, The Beast, and let’s not leave out her favorite Family Feud hosted by Steeeeve Harvey. Kitty built up an abundant record of cherished experiences and happy times through her remarkable life-time. She would often say a glass of brandy a day was the remedy to keep the doctors away and has even convinced many of her therapists that this was the secret to her longevity.
No doubt Mama Kitty truly touched each of our lives in a very special way and will be dearly missed. In the days ahead may we all find comfort and strength from the assured promises recorded in God’s Word the Bible at Revelation 21:4 & John 5:28,29.
Revelation 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (KJV)
John 5:28,29 “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life…” (KJV)
