Rick Gordon Owens, 70, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at home. He was born to John Owens and Marjorie Owens Bomgarden in Rockford on November 27, 1953. Rick attended Morrison Institute of Technology in Morrison, Illinois, and received an associate's degree as a mechanical engineer. Rick graduated West High School, and went on to be a machinist for many years. He worked for several places in the area, but retired from Regal Beloit.
Rick enjoyed riding his motorcycle, or even racing, as often as he could. He also loved to cook anything and everything, especially grilling when the weather allowed it. Rick also took a special interest in gardening.
He is survived by his siblings, Dawn Adamany of Oregon, Wisconsin, Alan Owens of Rockford, and Neal (Shelly) Owens of Machesney Park, Illinois; step-sister, Lisa Bomgarden Defendi of Rockford; many nieces and nephews.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for Rick is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM until the time of his funeral at 12:00 PM at Advantage Funeral Home, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford, Illinois 61102. Burial to follow at Willwood Burial Park.
