Micah Mahan

Micah leaves behind his mother Ellen Rowton Mahan, father Robert Mahan, younger siblings Megan Mahan and Andrew Mahan, and grandmother Sandra Rowton. Micah was a graduate of Monmouth College as well as Dallas Theological Seminary with degrees in Classics History, Ancient languages, and Theology. Micah was a bible and world religions teacher at Rockford Christian Schools for three years where he left a lasting mark on every student who stepped into his whimsical and ever exciting classes. Micah was an avid reader and had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. That thirst made his already brilliant mind that much sharper and made conversations with him a true treasure and delight to whomever he shared them with. Micah was a gifted musician: playing the electric and acoustic guitar, Bagpipes, and drums. His love for music in every genre and form made him a man of great culture and passion. (Side note) Micah possessed a rare gift called Synesthesia which gave music and sound a visual color in his mind (just another one of Micah’s many enviable gifts). Since he was a child, Micah enjoyed cartoons, comics, and video games, sharing this great passion for all things nerd with his brother and sister. The Mahan siblings were known as a fearsome force by all who knew them, filling every room they entered with ridiculous laughter, movie quotes, wondrous foolishness, and most of all Love. Micah was a fierce friend who loved deep and hard. He was kind and gentle and would stop his whole day just to bury a fallen bird; saying a blessing of peace over its spirit. Micah was a mighty warrior unafraid to stand up for what was right or stand in the balance if someone was in danger. Micah was a profound speaker while also being adept at listening: a rare combination. Micah’s faith in God gave him a center which grounded everything he did. He was the first to admit that he doubted often of many things regarding Christianity and the truth of God but one thing he always stood firm on and would remind everyone of whenever he could, is that God is love: period. Micah’s name means “He who is like Jehovah”. All who knew Micah can attest to this meaning in one simple and profound way, using Micah’s own words: God is Love and Micah’s name sake combined with his way of life leaves us with the conclusion that Micah Mathew Mahan was Love.

Micah’s Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday June 27th, 1pm at Harvest Bible Chapel, Loves Park, IL. Due to the current health situation a Private Comital service will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens (this may be subject to change depending on the health concerns at the time).
