James Harmon Button, 85, Rockford, passed away on November 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 5, 1927 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Nathan and Lily (Titsworth) Button. He married Ann Sickele on October 1, 1949 and later married Linda M. Lutzow- Cullum Button on July 25, 1987.
He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956 aboard the USS Buccaneer 761 during the Korean War. James was a retired over the road truck driver and later drove locally for Rockford Rigging.
James loved baseball, he coached little league and loved the Milwaukee (later Atlanta) Braves.
He is survived by his son; James (Cheryl) Button; grandson Jamie Button ;dedicated friend and former wife, Linda; stepchildren, Denise (Brad) Cullum Hunt, and Waneta (Jason) Cullum Smith; extended grandchildren, Nicole, Jason and Isaac Hunt; and Amber, Caleb, Kiersten and Jacob Bell; and special sister in law, Chris Taylor. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephew, sisters and brother in laws.
James is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ann; brothers, Eugene and Nathaniel Button; sisters, Rachel Button Pierson and Ruth Button Thorp.
A special thanks to Elisabeth, Barb, Shelly, Dan, Kelli and the rest of the staff at Riverbluff Nursing Home for their loving care.
Funeral service will be held at 1pm, Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services, 7000 W. State Street, Rockford. Pastor Ron Meyer will be officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5pm to 7pm at Advantage. Interment will be at Willwood Burial Park.
