Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place privately at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Live Fit with Lupus.
Dorothy was born on September 16, 1921 in Canton, MO, the daughter of Arthur Earl and Loreta Jane (Taylor) Breedlove. She married Junior Duane Black on June 30, 1938 in Maquoketa, IA. He preceded her in death on January 3, 1977.
Dorothy worked as a demonstrator in retail stores for the Oster company, retiring in 1985. In her free time, she enjoyed bowling, bingo, and Green Bay Packers football.
Dorothy was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island. She had belonged to the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority for 60+ years.
Dorothy’s greatest and unconditional love was reserved for her family, and would do all she could for them, as a fantastic cook, party planner, and making sure her family was together, especially for birthdays and Christmas breakfast.
Survivors (and spouses) include sons, Mike (Lori) Black, Bettendorf, Kevin (Marsha) Black, Rock Island; fiancé, Alfred “Ted” Ferry, Moline; sister, Shirley Breedlove, Rock Island; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, her parents, sons, Steve and Doug, daughter-in-law, Gloria, granddaughter, Ronda, and sister, Mildred Sheer, preceded Mrs. Black in death.
