In accordance with his wishes, his body will be cremated. Private family services and inurnment, joining his late wife and granddaughter, will be held at a later date at the New Boston Cemetery, in New Boston, IL. Clifford was born on March 1, 1916 in Dickens, TX, the son of John E. and Helen (Stephens) Shaw. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. He married Mary L. Stivers in 1961 in Imperial Beach, California. She preceded him in death on January 18, 2007.
Clifford worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Imperial Beach as a letter carrier and later a postal clerk. He was a member of Claude H. Morrison Lodge 747, A.F. & A.M. in Imperial Beach. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, and loved vacationing with his wife in their RV, particularly in Canada and Alaska.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Gorham, Rock Island; 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and a cousin in Oklahoma.
In addition to his wife, a granddaughter, Darlena Alley, a brother, and 2 sisters preceded Mr. Shaw in death.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Hospice Compassus, and especially to the staff at Avonlea Cottage for the 11 years of love and care of Mr. Shaw, which made him feel that Avonlea was “just like home.”
