the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 28,
2023. Joe was born on May 29, 1929 in Mahoningtown, PA., to the late Gerald
and Mary (Polce) Lombardo.
Joe honorably served in the US Army during the Korean War as a cook. He retired
from Conrail working as a Car Inspector for almost 40 years. He was a member of
the Our Lady of the Valley Parish/St. Cecilia Church, the Sons of Italy in Rochester,
and the Transport Workers Union of America.
During his retirement, Joe enjoyed walking at Brady’s Run with his wife, cooking
for his family, gardening, best known for his special tomatoes, woodworking,
golfing with his friends and son-in-law, and watching the Pittsburgh sports teams.
Joe will most importantly be remembered as a loving Husband, Father and
Grandfather. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years Bonnie;
daughter, Maria (Shawn) Fitzmorris of Union, KY; his son, Joe (Vanessa) Lombardo
of Jefferson Hills, PA.; three grandchildren, Ryan and Sam Fitzmorris and Jade
Lombardo. Joe was preceded in death by his four brothers; Angelo, Nick, Louis,
Babe, and his sister; Tina.
After several setbacks of his health in 2022, in 2023 Transitions Hospice stepped
in to help his wife care for him at home. The family would like to thank the
Transitions Team with a special thank you to Amber and Barb, and his caregiver,
Sue.
At Joe’s request there will be no memorial service. Arrangements have been
entrusted to the Saul-Gabauer Funeral Home 273 Rt. 68 Rochester, PA 15074.
