Born February 2, 1924, in Kangwondo, Korea, he was the son of the late Ha Yong Lew and Jin Won Kim. Trained as a pediatrician at Yonsei University in Seoul, he served as a medical officer in the Korean Army from 1948 to 1954, when he was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Afterward, he traveled to the U.S. to further his education, completing postgraduate coursework at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Medical School. He emigrated from Korea with his family to practice medicine in Malaysia and Jamaica for several years before finally settling in the U.S. in 1973. He owned his own practice as a family physician in Monaca for 20 years, from 1976 until his retirement in 1996.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Hi Young Lew; his three sons, Sung Hee, Kyung Don and his wife Helen, and Jun Hi; his four grandchildren, Victoria, Samantha, William, and Alexandra; and four younger sisters and a brother. He was an elder at the Korean Pittsburgh United Methodist Church in Mt. Lebanon.

Private interment will follow services at the Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.
