Richard Gray Gurley, of Rochester Hills, MI, passed away on September 3, 2023 at the age of 78. He was born in Detroit, MI on July 23, 1945. Richard graduated from Rochester High School and received a Bachelor’s of Criminal Justice from Wayne State University and a Master’s Eastern Michigan University before attending Northwestern School of Staff and Command. He married his beloved wife Dawn Marie (nee Carmona) Gurley on May 7, 1993. Richard worked in the Detroit Police Department for 30 ½ years before going on to work for Pinkerton Security for 26 years. He was a proud member of the Lieutenants and Sergeants Association. He had a passion for his farm, his horses, his bourbon and cigars, and most importantly his family. He is survived by his wife Dawn Gurley; children Kimberly (nee Gurley) Tustin, Alexa Gurley, Cora Marie Gurley, Madeline Judith (nee Gurley) Rubenstein, and Savannah Gray Gurley; grandson Grayson Raymond Rubenstein; and sister Sandra Lee Napp.
A visitation for Richard will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester, Michigan. A funeral service will be held on Thursday September 7, 2023 at 11:00 AM (instate 10:00 AM) at the Historic Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan.
