Jim leaves behind a loving wife of 42 years Deborah, brothers Joseph “Jay” (Jody, deceased) , Jeffery (Emily), John (JoAnna), sisters Janet Varner (Steve Fletcher) and Jennifer (Michael Fogler), many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim grew up in Rochester and was part of one of the first classes to graduate from Adam’s High School in 1971. He obtained an associate's degree from Kalamazoo community college in hotel management, but he said he enjoyed the cooking classes the most. Jim briefly considered becoming a chef. Jim always had a garden and enjoyed sharing the vegetables he grew with friends and family. Various varieties of tomatoes and peppers were his favorite to grow and the ingredients for the delicious meals and salsa he made.
Jim spent many years remodeling his home and yard with help from friends and family and was very thankful to them for providing their time and knowledge. Jim was always known for having a “project". He would do extensive research first on how to do the job, then proceed to its completion. Jim was particularly proud of the stonework he did on the outside of the garage, a project spanning 15 years. His intention was to match the cobblestone on the house, but in reality the work he did is superior. Jim also loved traveling to Mexico where many trips were spent exploring, but a favored destination for him was a small island on the Yucatán Peninsula called Isla de Mujeres. A Raider football fan since the age of 15, he was happy to have watched them beat Kansas City on Christmas Day!
Jim will missed for his giving nature, spirit, sense of humor, and wonderful attitude towards life; He never gave up.
