David Keith Chapoton, 88, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on January 10th, 2024 at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He was born in Mount Clemens, Michigan on June 7th, 1935 to Arthur and Neva Chapoton. Dave graduated from Utica High School and attended Alma College. He was married to Jane Parkhill on March 18th, 1995. After working for many years at the family business, Dave bought an A&W Hot Dog Stand which led to many franchise businesses throughout his life, the last of which was Tastee-Freez International. He went on to develop businesses in Lewiston, MI. Dave was a collector of classic cars and Jeeps, along with auto related signs. As a Motor City Packard member, he volunteered for many events at the Packard Proving Grounds. Dave was an exemplary leader who donated his talents and time to the Alma College Board of Trustees for twenty-one years where he became the chair of the board for three years. He was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws Degree from Alma College in 2006.
Dave loved spending time at his cottage in Lewiston with his wife, Jane, along with his children and grandchildren. Many memories in Lewiston include: camp fires, boat rides, visits to the garages and walks on the hill. A businessman at heart, he was instrumental in founding the Lewiston Downtown Development Authority. Dave and Jane planned their trips up north so he could attend the meetings and help with a beautification project to attract businesses and people to the downtown.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; children, Renee Allen of Chesapeake, VA, Debbie Chapoton of Clawson, and Mark (Carrie) Chapoton of Wesley Chapel, FL; stepchildren, Ken (Andrea) Reynolds of Macomb, Terri (Kim) Reynolds of Shelby Township, Kris (Steve) Schoen of Okemos, and Lynnette (Anthony) Wuebben of Ponte Vedra, FL; grandchildren, Nichole and Natalie; step grandchildren Lauren, Katie, Allison, Stephanie, Christina and Matt and many dear friends.
