Elsie graduated from Nashwauk High School. She went on to graduate from Augustana Hospital School of Nursing with an R.N. Degree in September of 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. During her time in nursing school, Elsie received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1954 while reading a fellow nurse's New Testament that was given to all the graduating nurses from the Gideons. A total transformation took place as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new Creature: old things are passed away; behold all things become new."
In 1970, Elsie married Jim MacGregor. Jim was assigned to the U.S.S. Wisconsin Battleship BB-44 in Norfolk, Virginia. He received special training for several months in Great Lake Naval Station. Jim and Elsie were married for 29 years when Jim passed away in 1999.
Living her life as a Registered Nurse, military wife, and mother, Elsie was also a proud published author of two books. She wrote Far Horizons - Adventures at Sea, and Chambers of the Mind - the Search for Treasure.
