It is with deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Mason Aaron Washenko who returned to his Heavenly home on November 18, 2024 surrounded by friends and loving family. Mason was born on October 11, 2012 to loving parents Stephanie and Aaron Washenko and lived his entire life in Herriman Utah.
To know Mason in life was to feel joy, passion, silliness, and love. The world is better for having him here for these 12 short years. In death, his memory will forever inspire those who loved him to pursue life with enthusiasm, embrace adventure, and unconditionally love those around us. He was fearless, out-going, and kind. He was a friend to everyone and never hesitated to give smiles, fist bumps, or a friendly “hi” to anyone he passed. He brought light and laughter everywhere he went, and people were drawn to him for this.
He attended 6th grade at Oak Leaf Elementary school this year in Ms. Alm’s class where he loved to study math. Most of all, Mason loved playing football and was ecstatic to have been on the local undefeated championship flag football team, the Patriots, coached by his dad this year! He was a loyal BYU football fan and celebrated their last-minute win over Utah when he attended the Holy War in person just a couple weeks ago. He was happiest playing sports or Fortnite with some of his countless friends including Cage, Collin, Cooper, Tanner, and his brother Isaac. He was a friend to everyone and was a loving brother, son, cousin, nephew, and grandson.
He proudly and dutifully served as the 1st counselor in the Deacon’s quorum. His testimony and love for his Heavenly Father, his Savior, the temple, his family, and missionary work was evident in the way he lived his life. He faithfully attended the temple every month to perform baptisms for the dead and inspired others to also attend the temple. He loved his family fiercely and reminded them of this often through word and text.
Mason was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Anthony Washenko. He is survived by his parents Stephanie and Aaron, brothers Isaac Alexander (age 10) and Joshua “Wesley” (age 4), and grandparents JoAnn Washenko, and Steven and Lucas Largin. He will be forever remembered by many others including aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A public viewing will be held Monday November 25th at 6:00-8:00 pm at the LDS chapel located at 6593 West Herriman blvd. A second public viewing will be held on Tuesday November 26th at 1:00 pm followed by memorial services at 2:00 pm at the same chapel. Mason will then be laid to rest in the Herriman Cemetery with committal services beginning at 3:00pm. All who loved and knew him are welcome to attend services to celebrate the life and light of our beloved Mason.
