Ain't Life Grand!
Jennifer was born in Brigham City, UT to Armour Anton and Jenny Ray Jensen. Growing up, she had the good fortune to experience life in Morocco, Germany, and France, which inspired her lifelong love of travel and other cultures. She attended Davis High School and graduated from Chateauroux High School in France, going on to earn her Teaching degree and Master's degree from the University of Utah.
Spotting a "cute guy" from the window of the Student Union reading room where she worked, she met her adventure partner and husband of 49 years, Jim. They had a lifetime of adventures together, backpacking through Mexico and Europe, traveling the US in their VW poptop camper, traveling every summer with their two children, and meeting friends in travel through home exchanges in Spain, Italy, France, and China.
Jennifer was a teacher for 32 years and was a lifelong learner. She taught Reading, Geography, English, and French at Olympus Jr. High and Eisenhower Jr. She earned her National Board Certification in teaching, published an article in the Harvard Civic Newsletter, and coached the Olympus Jr. debate team to a State championship.
After retirement, she helped care for her grandchildren, regularly taking them to the theater, camping, and other community activities, and passing on her loves of travel, culture, cooking, conversation, and learning. She also went on to become a master scuba diver, taking dive trips to Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Bimini, Tobago, Barbados, Bahamas, and South Africa. She joined and eventually became president of the Friendship Force of Utah, traveling to Germany, Iceland, Tanzania, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Guadalupe, South Africa, and around the US, and hosting travelers from around the world.
Jennifer took advantage of every opportunity and was always looking for opportunities for others. She appreciated the beauty of life and was always looking to share it. Jennifer passed away peacefully on May 31st. She gave her family the gift of humor, strength, and gratitude throughout her short cancer battle. She is survived by her husband, Jim, children, Katie Young (Jeff), and Jack Allred (Heather), sister, Kerri Kelly (Danny), brother, Roger Jensen (Marian), and her four grandchildren, Taven, Adora, Loic, and Elin. Jennifer was a force to be reckoned with; fearless, positive, accepting, confident, generous, unabashedly authentic, and always dreaming of possibilities. She will be deeply and forever missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15th at 10:00 a.m. and a viewing will be held on Friday, June 14th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Millcreek, Utah.
