surrounded by family and loved ones. We are sad Dad has left us,
but rejoice knowing he is reunited with our mother, his wife, Norma
Jean, for all of eternity. The special bond they had will never be
broken. Two hearts beating as one, there is no greater love.
Roy was born in Riverside, California on August 21, 1923 to
Marion Edward and Mattie Bird Waddell. He grew up in Riverside
where he met the love of his life, and his life partner Norma Jean.
They were married for 67 years, making their home in Riverside
where together through their love and commitment they had for
each other raised four loving children, Ken, Craige, Wayne and Pam.
Roy was a loving husband, and father, devoted to his family.
He worked hard his entire life loving and supporting his family.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need,
but especially to his family whom he loved so much. He instilled
the principals of hard work, commitment, kindness, and love to
all of his children. He was the best father and role model any
child could have and we were blessed to have such a special man
in our lives. He loved being surrounded by both family and
friends, especially his lifelong friends Jack and Lois Williams.
Roy will be missed by many and will be remembered for his love
of life and family and most of all his generous and loving heart.
Roy was very proud of his military service to his country
enlisting in the United States Army Feb. 23, 1943 to January 23,
1946. He fought in World War II in Company H 309th Infantry
Regiment 78th Lightening Division. He was awarded the following
medals: American Campaign Medal, European African Middle
Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War
II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged at the rank of
staff sergeant.
A special thank you to his devoted caregivers, his son, Wayne
Waddell, daughter-in-law Gloria Waddell, and granddaughter
Tracie Wilcznski for their kindness and love.
Also the family wishes to thank Dad's caretaker Julia
Washington with much love and gratitude. Her kindness and love
she gave our Dad was so special. They developed a bond that
couldn’t be broken. His life was enriched having her in his life.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother and father
Marion Edward and Mattie Bird Waddell; his sister Audrey Doss;
his brothers Cecil, Nick, Lee, Coy, Comet, Harry, Hugh, James,
