On December 12, 1957, my Mom, Josephine Becerra and Dad, George Becerra was blessed with two bundles of joy, I, Richard, would be their big brother. They were born in Corona, California. Our Dad would joke that my Mother had a TUMOR. My Dad was referring to TWO MORE! The two bundles of joy turned out to be twins, Roberta and Robert. Robert weighed 5 lbs. and Roberta weighed 3.5 lbs. My Mother had been very sad that Roberta had to stay in the hospital until her lungs and kidneys developed and functioned by themselves.
The reason I mentioned Roberta and Robert is for a reason. Growing up as the big brother by 8 years was not easy. Roberta and her partner in crime stuck together like glue.
As time went on, Roberta graduated from Corona High School and attended Riverside City College. Here she graduated Cosmetology School and became a hair stylist for life. She loved doing hair, makeup, babysitting the nieces and nephew, whatever you threw at her. At her salon, she met a lot of now lifelong friends.
Joe Sanchez came into her life over 20 years ago. She married the man who captured her heart. Roberta had nothing but love and respect for him. And did they cook up a storm. No matter what occasion, they would always cook enough to feed an army. During Christmas, Roberta and Joe carried the tradition of her Mama, Josephine Becerra, making tamales. She made the most delicious and loved to share with all. Our family wants everybody to know that we love him for showing us respect and kindness during the devastating road that Roberta had to endure in the hospital.
Roberta Sanchez is survived by her twin brother, Robert, Brother Richard and wife, Katty, nieces and nephew, Michelle Alderette and John Kelley, Richard Becerra Jr and Kasee Becerra, Julie Deharo and Eric Deharo, and great nieces and nephews, Dominic, Faith, Gabriel, Shilah, Kayla, Katalina, and Alexis.
Our hearts are heavy with sorrow but your memory will always be alive. My heart will always miss you Berta. I will always thank God for you being my sister.
Richard Becerra
