

Charles Lopez Gonzales was born on February 14, 1933 in Phoenix, Arizona to Raymond and Martha Gonzales. He had one brother Robert who passed away years ago. Charles had an interesting childhood which had him living in the Pomona and Hanford areas. He was close to his parents and brother.
Charles was a natural athlete and exceled in several sports. While in high school, he achieved varsity status as he participated in basketball, football and baseball. During this time, he was scouted by a professional baseball team. Later, he joined the Naval Reserve during the Korean conflict. Charles was proud of his service and traveled extensively.
Charles married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Grace Garcia, on June 5 1954 in La Verne, CA. It was love at first sight. Later they moved to Riverside where he began his career as a police officer. Charles and Grace had three daughters: Karen, Donna and Patricia.
Charles rose through the ranks and landed as a Captain. He very much enjoyed his law enforcement career. He made friends for life and formed tight bonds with many officers. After retiring from the Riverside Police Department, he worked in the Federal Court system. He was a proud and strong man having achieved much in life. Those he worked with respected him, but also enjoyed his sense of humor.
A truly amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Charles provided well for his family with love and support. They were proud of him especially as his daughters grew closer to him in later years. After Grace passed in 2020, Charles moved to Orange County to be near Trish and her husband Bob Presley. He stayed in contact with a handful of friends, most notably Fernando Guilin.
Charles passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by: daughters, Karen Gonzales, Donna Knox, and Trish Presley; granddaughters, Dr. Alexa Elliott Sales and Katie Knox: and great-grandchildren, Scotty and Gracie, Bella and Jameson.
The family will hold a private mass at St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church - 3680 Arlington Ave, Riverside, CA 92506. Following the mass, a graveside ceremony will be held at Olivewood Cemetery located at 3300 Central Ave, Riverside CA 92506.
