Celia, a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on July 11, 2024 at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laugher, and unwavering faith.
Born April 29, 1932 in Malolos Bulocan, Philippines, she was the beloved daughter of Francisco and Pascuala Toledo and cherished sister to Alesandro, Aida, Ester, and Edwin.
Celia graduated from Mary Johnston College of Nursing in Manila, Philippines and served as a registered nurse for over 40 years, most notably for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Hospital. Celia married Eliseo Malana Buendia on December 24, 1960 and together they raised three children Hahns, Ann, and Deeda. Their love was an example of dedication and partnership, a testament to the strength of their Christian faith.
As a mother, she was nurturing and compassionate, imparting her values of kindness, faith, and family. She took immense pride in watching her children grow into adulthood and having families of their own. She looked forward to Sunday afternoons when the family came over to spend the day eating, sharing stories, laughing, and napping.
Celia and Eli enjoyed their daily outings driving to various places, experiencing different cities, and trying new restaurants during their retirement, making many wonderful memories. Celia’s role as a grandmother brought her immeasurable joy. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and the time spent with them was a source of endless happiness.
Her faith and family were the core of her life, giving her strength to face life’s challenges with grace and courage. She spread joy, made everyone feel loved and welcomed, and had an infectious laugh. She touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Celia was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Eliseo Buendia, brother Alesandro Toledo, and brothers-in-law Emil Odquina and Emilio Linzaga. She is survived by her son Hahns Buendia and wife Leilane, her daughters Ann Singleton and husband Leon, Deeda Houghton and husband Patrick, her sisters Ester Odquina and Aida Linzaga, her brother Edwin Toledo and wife Malou, sister-in-law Gloria Toledo, and grandchildren Christine Buendia, Brittany Buendia-Moralez and husband Kenneth, Jessica Houghton, Matthew Houghton, Carson Singleton, Brian Singleton, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveyard service to celebrate Celia’s life will be held on August 2, 2024 at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary at 1:30 PM.
Though she has left this earthly realm, Celia’s spirit will continue to shine brightly, reminding us all to embrace life with love, laughter, and unwavering faith. May she rest in eternal peace.
