Virginia Dare Couey Anderson, 95 of Jackson, Ms., went home to be with the Lord, where she received the Crown of Life as she was surrounded by her loving children at home on Saturday, September 25, 2021.
Virginia was born in Pine Apple, Alabama on June 17, 1926 to Theus Ryal and Lennie Dawn Couey. The fourth of six siblings, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Shumack of Silverhill, Al., and Sara Lee McBride of Greenville, Al. and also two brothers, Joseph Wesley Couey of Chickasaw, Al., and John William Couey of Pascagoula, Ms. She has one living brother, Rev. C. Jonathan Couey of Montgomery, Al.
Virginia finished Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama where upon graduation she went to work for the Southern and Health Insurance Company. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Andy, to whom she was married to on August 30,1953 at the Chickasaw United Methodist Church. They became the proud parents of two children, Sharon and David.
Virginia and Andy joined the Christ United Methodist Church in 1970 after moving to Jackson, Ms. Virginia was a member of the Griffin Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, Circle 2., the Joy Group, the Sanctuary Choir. In addition, she taught Sunday School and was a Greeter on Sunday mornings.
Virginia, being married to Andy for 54 years, then becoming a homemaker, she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren and great - grandchildren over the years for special holidays like Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She loved being in the kitchen preparing many favorite meals and desserts for her family and grandchildren to enjoy. She loved family vacations to the beach and family reunions.
In the later years during retirement, Virginia enjoyed life with Andy as they spent much time fishing and raising a garden in the backyard of their home. She took much pride in beautifying outside of her home with beautiful shrubs, plants and flowers. In the mornings when her and Andy would go out on their back patio to share some coffee, she could be heard saying as she opened the door to a new day, "Lord, what we going to do today?" Virginia lived the Christian life with all of her heart. The life she lived before her family and all her knew her . . could see the love and life of Christ shining through her with all that she would say and do.
Virginia was preceded in death by her wonderful husband Maurice M. (Andy) Anderson who passed in 2007. She is survived by her children, Sharon Anderson Fiveash(David) of Brandon and her son, David L. Anderson, Sr. of Jackson. . .her four grandchildren, Leslie Lee(Blaine) of Morton, Matthew N. Davis of Golden, Co., David L. Anderson, Jr., of Pulaski and Ryan D. Fiveash of Lucedale. . .her great grandchildren, Arian, Cayden, Coby, Macy and Collin Anderson of Morton. . .Timmy and Nathan Geter and Joshua Lee of Morton. She is also survived by her very faithful brother, The Rev. C. Jonathan Couey of Montgomery, Al.
The family would like to thank Baptist Hospice of Jackson for their faithful commitment to Virginia's care with special thanks to Andrea and April. . . also to Lisa who very faithfully cared for Mother during this time. A word of appreciation tor the Christ United Methodist Church pastoral care of Rev. Bob Rambo and The Rev. Dr. Jon McCoy and a member of the Chaplain service of Baptist Hospice, Kevin.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Christ United Methodist Church or the favorite charity of your choice in memory of Virginia.
As a way of saying . . ."we will see you later" to Virginia. . .there will be a visitation on Wednesday, September 29th at the Parkway Funeral Home from 10:00-11:45 a.m. and a private family service and internment at Parkway Memorial Cemetery at 12:00 noon.
