Robert Floyd (Bob) Shirley went home to be with his Lord Jesus on October 13, 2024. Bob was born in West Point, MS to the late William Travis Shirley and Agnes Shepherd Shirley. Bob married Mavis Stanley on June 4, 1961. They have two children, Pamela and Bard.
Bob graduated from West Point High School where he served as president of his senior class. He also participated in school sports. He received his B.S. in Business Administration from Mississippi State University.
Bob enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and was commissioned an ensign that same year. After serving in the Navy Bob had careers with Allstate Insurance, Farm Credit Banks of New Orleans, and Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mavis Stanley Shirley, his daughter Pamela Shirley Carlton (David) of Lancaster, SC, his son Bard Shirley (Becky) of Madison, MS, two grandchildren Kimberly Carlton (Mike Bzozowski), and Christopher Carlton (Danielle) and one sister, Betty Riser. He is preceded in death by three brothers, William Shirley Jr., Milford Shirley, and Jim Shirley.
Bob loved his family with a love superseded only by his love for Jesus. He was a follower of Jesus from an early age and loved to study and teach the Bible. Bob taught many different Sunday School groups through the years and loved the Anatole Bible Study that he helped start and led for the last 15 years.
He was an active member of every Baptist church in which he served, most recently the First Baptist Church of Madison, MS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, Madison, MS to be used to scholarship qualifying youth for mission trips and camps
A visitation for Bob will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Madison, 2100 Main St, Madison, Mississippi 39110, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Serving as pallbearers are Glenn Britt, Christopher Carlton, David Jones, Greg LaFosse, Shep Shirley, Roy Tipton. Serving as honorary pallbearers Mike Bzozowski and Art Shirley.
