Peggy Jo Pittman Bruce passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on October 25, 2022. She was born on November 18, 1940 to William Henry Pittman and Estelle Stevens Pittman in Jackson, MS. She was raised in Jackson and attended Jackson Public Schools, graduating from
Murrah High School in 1959. Peggy attended college at the University of Southern Mississippi where she pledged Chi Omega sorority. She married Donald Pinnix Bruce, her high school sweetheart, on July 15, 1961. They settled in Jackson, MS where they raised their children, Todd, Jeffrey and Paige. Peggy was a world class homemaker, gourmet cook and cake baker, supper club hostess, and JLTA member at River Hills Club, who enjoyed a great life raising her family and being socially active in Northeast Jackson. Over the years she enjoyed participating in many garden, social and dance clubs including Meh Lady, Les Joueuses, Panach and Candlewasters. Peggy found great joy and pride in her grandchildren, among whom she was fondly known as GiGi. She was present for all their milestones, birthday celebrations, sporting events, scholastic achievements, graduations, and both her granddaughters’ weddings.
Peggy will always be remembered as a stoic person with a steadfast loyalty to her loved ones and an ironclad resilience to life’s curve balls. She weathered the storm of losing her daughter at an untimely age with grace. She never let anything defeat her or destroy her positive outlook on life. She was always one to encourage others to pick up the pieces and move on. Peggy had an uncanny ability to forge many deep meaningful friendships that she was proud to maintain for many years. Peggy had a gift of patience and time that she so freely lent to any of her friends or family and would talk to you for hours, never judging, always listening with unconditional support. She could whip up a gourmet meal in a matter of minutes, bake the best caramel cake you’ve ever had, loved Christmas Eve celebrations with her extended Pittman family and could get the worst stain out of anything. She was well traveled with her husband and a close group of friends. She spent every summer in Perdido/ Orange Beach with her family where she forged many loving friendships and connections with people from all over the country.
Peggy is preceded in death by her daughter, Allison Paige Bruce, and her parents William Henry Pittman and Estelle Stevens Pittman. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Don Bruce, of Madison, and her children Todd Bruce (Julia) of Madison and Jeffrey Bruce (Carrie) of Madison, her brothers John R. Pittman (Gail) of Ridgeland, and Henry Pittman of Mobile, AL.
