Patricia (“Pat”) Parker Pierce, a life-long resident of Jackson, MS, died peacefully on June 22, 2022 at the age of 91. Pat had a love of life and adventure, was known for her quick-wit humor, and charmed anyone she met.
Born on January 12, 1931 in Hardcash, Mississippi to Lamar and Celeste Parker, Pat was a graduate of Central High School in 1949 and the Mississippi University of Women in 1953. Married to the love of her life, Hugh Vernon Pierce, for 69 years, they had three children, six grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. They were affectionately known as “Pierces Pearls,” who lovingly called her “Pat Pat.”
Pat had a servant’s heart for the Lord and was a devoted wife and mother. As an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, she served as a greeter every Sunday morning, was a member of the Joy Choir, and loved using her creative imagination at the annual Tablescapes event. As an attendee of multiple mission trips, she had a bright and energetic personality that allowed her to befriend anyone she met. Pat was always up for adventure and a challenge, as evidenced by her international travels, white-water rafting with her grandchildren, annual “Destination X” trips with the grandchildren each summer, zip-lining, and parasailing to name a few. Other hobbies included playing bridge, participating as a docent at the Mississippi Governor’s mansion, not cooking, and hosting the Easter pot-luck lunch for all those who wanted to join (there were many).
She spent her last few years at the Orchard Retirement Community where she was known for her sense of humor. She always introduced herself as “Patricia Parker Pierce, like picked a peck of pickled peppers”. While she is easy to love, we are forever grateful to Debria Smith, Judy Milner, Violet Judge, and Candy Akin who went above and beyond in their care and love for her during her years at the Orchard.
Pat is survived by her three children: Vernon Pierce (Sheree Pierce), James Pierce (Barbara Pierce), and Celeste Carty (Owen Carty), and six grandchildren: Marcee Carty, Karen Pierce, Catherine Bradshaw (Austin Bradshaw), Hugh Pierce, J.P. Pierce (Sarah Pierce), and Sadie Brown (Michael Brown). In her last month, she was fortunate to meet her first great grandchild, Marian Bradshaw.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Charlie Parker.
The visitation and funeral are scheduled at 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM, respectively, on Sunday, June 26, at Parkway Funeral Home. Graveside burial to follow. Donations may be given in lieu of flowers to a charity of your choice.
