Nathan Henry Cox, 56 of Canton passed away on May 4, 2015 at home surrounded by his family and friends after a short battle with melanoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents C.S. (Sid) and Ada Patterson Cox. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Mary Jane Smith and his pride and joy, his four children: Meagan (Todd) Babb of Brandon, Jake (Lauren) of Madison, Joseph (Kristin) of Brandon, and Lukas (Laura) of Madison and his precious granddaughter Ella Jane who loved her Papa dearly. His brother Chet (Beth) and sister Stella Smith (Don) of Flowood, a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended Cox family also survive him.
Nate grew up in Rankin County, graduating from Pearl High School. He continued his education and played football at Hinds Junior College and graduated from Mississippi State with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering. He worked briefly with Teleco in Layfayette and Erwin Industries in Brandon. He also worked with Multicraft in Brandon and was active in the plant start up of Hydro Aluminum in Puckett. In May of 1991, Nate and his brother began a business, Cox MHP Inc. in Flowood, which has expanded to include a facility in Morton.
He was active in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers where he served many officer positions. He was a member of Fannin UMC for 28 years, serving in many leadership roles. While all of his children attended Mississippi State University, he and his family were members of the Reservoir Dawgs football group, enjoying fellowship before and after football games- Go Dawgs!
Nate was known for his kind demeanor, his deep voice, his roaring laugh, and his ability to design and problem solve.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 7 from 5 to 7 pm at the family home 199 Windward Acres Road, Canton and on Friday May 8 visitation will be from 10 to 11 am followed by a celebration of Nate’s life at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fannin UMC, 2851 Highway 471, Brandon, MS 39047.
