Jean was the second born to Agnesbelle Tridell Knighten and Harvey Lyle Knighten on November 17, 1928 in Macon, MS. She lived most of her childhood in Ruleville, MS, graduating from Ruleville High School in 1946. She has a BS in education from Delta State University, where she graduated in 1950.
She married Thomas Askew Vinson May 23, 1953 in Memphis, TN, and they were married for 60 years. Jean worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses in the Jackson area.
Jean enjoyed many things in life. Some of her favorites were church activities, spending time with family and friends, and playing bridge. She expressed her love of music playing piano and singing in the church choir for many years. She remained active exercising at the YMCA, walking her dog daily, and having lunch with friends until late in life.
Jean is preceded in death by her mother, Agnesbelle; father, Harvey; brother, Lyle; and husband, Tommy. She is survived by her children Tom and Betty Vinson of Madison, Robert Vinson of Jackson, and Helen Page of Lake Charles, LA; and her granddaughter Katherine Vinson and husband Tyler Kaub of Huntsville, AL.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. with funeral services beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29 at the chapel at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. Burial will follow at Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
