George was born in Magee, Mississippi on July 14, 1930 to Sylvester Joseph Walker and Maggie Harrington. He was valedictorian of his high school class and after serving in the military he earned a degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.
George married Marjorie Hood in 1957 and they had two children, Rodney and Ellen. He worked for the Farmer’s Home Administration as an engineer until his retirement at age 65.
George was an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for over sixty years, serving as a deacon, where he was a respected leader who lived an exemplary Christian life. He and Marjorie were involved for many years with Broadmoor’s English as a Second Language program. After retirement he enjoyed his property in Madison.
George is survived by his wife Marjorie, children Rodney Walker (Cindy) and Ellen Walker Portman (Chris), brother Ralph, granddaughter Hannah Grace Davis (Luke), grandson Jake, two great grandchildren, Lily Parker Davis and Walker Davis, along with many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Maggie and his brother CL.
Funeral services will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Saturday, October 7, 2023 with visitation at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am.
Memorial donations may be made in George’s name to American Diabetes Association, Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery and Broadmoor Baptist Church ESL Program.
