Delta Morgan Walton, 92, went to be with the Lord on November 29, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Delta was born July 8, 1931 in Terry, MS to Nannie Barlow Morgan and Robert Theodore Morgan. She spent her childhood on her family’s farm and loved having many animals in her care. She helped at her parents’ country store, Morgan’s Grocery, which was in the family for generations.
She graduated from Terry High School and attended Millsaps College before working at Bell Telephone. She married James Clyde Walton on May 8, 1953 eventually settling in Jackson, MS. They enjoyed 45 years of marriage before Jim’s death in 1998. They had three children, Bob, Jim and Nancy.
Delta enjoyed various social clubs including bridge clubs with her many friends. She loved her dogs and had one the majority of her life. She was a member of First Baptist Jackson for over 40 years. She loved music and singing in the choir at church. She was active in the Hope and Joy Sunday school class.
Delta is survived by her three children, Bob (Vivian) Walton of Madison; Jim Walton of Jackson and Nancy Walton of Oxford. Her 4 grandchildren Claire Walton Anderson, Patrick Walton (Shanleigh), Darah Walton McDonald (Chris), and Maggie Selph Carr (Nick). And her 6 great grandchildren; Avery, Lucy and Hadley McDonald, Patrick and Ann Roane Walton and Walton Carr.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Blake in Ridgeland, MS for their loving care these past few months. And we’re so grateful for Geraldine Shearrill, a special friend and caregiver who brought such joy to Delta with her kindness, her stories and her wonderful cooking.
The celebration of Delta’s life will be Saturday, December 2 with visitation at 10:00 am and service following at 11:00 am at Parkway Funeral Home on Highland Colony in Ridgeland, MS.
