Carolyn Wood Thompson passed away on her 93rd birthday on September 6, 2024. Mrs. Thompson was born on September 6, 1931 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She became a Christian and was baptized at Main Street Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. She is a graduate of Hattiesburg High School and Belhaven College. Mrs. Thompson became a school teacher upon graduation from college. She taught at Boyd Elementary School in Jackson and at elementary schools in Hattiesburg. She also taught preschool for many years at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Jackson.
Carolyn married Rev. Julius Carter Thompson, Sr. of Leesburg, Mississippi in 1957. Mrs. Thompson served faithfully as the pastor’s wife as her husband pastored churches in Memphis, TN, Nashville, TN, Rockville, MD, and Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Thompson was a devoted mother and grandmother whose greatest joy in life was her family. She loved her children and five grandsons with all her heart, always putting them first and making sure they felt loved and cherished. Her home was a place of warmth where she created countless memories that will be treasured forever.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Archie Miller Wood and Lela Rogers Wood, and her beloved husband of sixty-seven years, Rev. Julius C. Thompson, Sr. She is survived by her two children, Julius Carter Thompson, Jr (Wendy) of Ridgeland and Melanie Thompson Hodge (David) of Meridian and five grandsons, Alston Thompson, Graham Hodge, Marshall Hodge, Keith Thompson, and Carter Thompson.
A visitation for Carolyn will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Parkway Funeral Home & Parkway Memorial Cemetery, 1161 Highland Colony Pkwy, Ridgeland, Mississippi 39157, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
