Steve Jerome Batten

Steve Jerome Batten, 54, of Midlothian, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert Jerome Batten Sr. He is survived by his mother, Blanche LaRue Killette Batten; a sister, Kathryn LaRue Culpin and husband, Bill Culpin, all of Midlothian; a brother, Wilbert "Jerry" Jerome Batten Jr. and wife, Sherri Lynn Batten, of Hanover; three nieces, Karrington LaRue Culpin, Skylar Brooke Batten, Elisabeth Mariah Batten; one nephew, Christian Taylor Batten. Steve was a funeral director with Woody Funeral Home for 25 years and a member of Grove Avenue Baptist Church. He was an active member of the Brain Tumor Support Group at St. Mary's Hospital and volunteered with Chippenham and Johnston Willis Hospitals for seven years. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road. A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. at Grove Avenue Baptist Church, 8701 Ridge Road, Richmond, Va. 23229.
