She was born on July 11, 1921 in Johnston County, North Carolina to the late James Benjamin Lee and the late Christie Rose Lee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Brent Kennedy; her brothers, James Herschell Lee, Charles Benjamin Lee and Tan Wilson Lee. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and great nephews.
She attended Mary Washington College (The University of Mary Washington).
She began her career in North Carolina where she joined the war effort, working at the North Carolina Shipbuilding Company in Wilmington, North Carolina. At the end of World War II she moved to Richmond to work at the Federal Reserve Bank. She left the Federal Reserve Bank to begin her forty year career at Anderson Strudwick as Executive Assistant to the founding partner, Edward C. Anderson.
She was a devoted member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She was an active and valued volunteer at Elijah House Academy (EHA)for 22 years. Sadie led an active life during her 18 years at Westminster Canterbury. She enjoyed swimming almost every day and she received an Aquatics Award for her participation in their water aerobics program. Sadie had an outgoing personality and made many friends at St. Giles, Westminster Canterbury and in the Richmond community.
There will be a celebration of the life of Sadie Lee Kennedy at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Mission Fund or Westminster Canterbury, Fellowship Fund.
