Paul C. Burnette, Sr.

Paul Clifford Burnette, Sr., 92, of Sandston, Va., passed away peacefully on August 8, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Anne Kemp; and their two children, Paul Clifford Burnette Jr. (Kristie) and John Kevin Burnette. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren, Suzanne and Margaret Burnette (Adam), Lauren Hiegl (Andrew), Joshua Burnette and Mariah Ebeling (Michael). Additional survivors include his brother, Charles H. Burnette (Joan); sisters-in-law, Carol Burnette, Betsy Revere and Louise Speight; and six nephews, Bill (Diane), Paul (Diane), Jim, Michael, Chuck (Beth) Burnette, Drew Revere (Gayle); and four nieces, Susan Lewis, Sharon Edwards and Linda (Dail) Stancil and Windy Quinn. Survivors also include two great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons and seven great-nieces and nine great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey James and Viola Young Burnette; and his brothers, Vonnell James (Doris) and William Edward Burnette. A loving father and adoring grandfather, Paul earned the nickname “Papa” from his first granddaughters. The name suited him well. Paul cared deeply for his family and friends. He always had a helping hand for anyone deserving. Paul was a proud U.S. Army Korean War veteran, who served with the 32nd Infantry Regiment until his discharge in 1948. One year later, he met the love of his life, Margaret Anne Kemp and they made a beautiful life together for 71 years. A loyal and dedicated employee, Paul started work with C&P Telephone Company in 1952 and retired 40 years later. Paul was a member of Masonic Lodge 216 beginning in 1964. In retirement, Paul and Margaret built a small residential rental business in Sandston when he wasn’t working in his vegetable garden. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 13, 2021, at Corinth United Methodist Church at 23 W. Williamsburg Rd. in Sandston for visitation from 12 to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Washington Memorial Park, 6217 Memorial Dr., Sandston, Va.
