Michael Eugene "Gene" Moore, Sr.

Michael Eugene (Gene) Moore, Sr., loving husband, father, Grandpa/Paga, brother, and friend to many, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Frances Moore, and brother, Ronnie. Gene was a Trustee, Deacon, and held many other positions at Hardy Central Baptist Church for over 48 years. After 40 years in the elevator trade, he retired as an Honorary Gold Card member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 51 where he served for a number of years as Financial Secretary. He taught apprentice classes for NEIEP before and after retirement. Gene was well loved and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his best friend, soulmate, and loving wife of 53 years, Sandra Shelton Moore; a daughter and son-in-law, Staci and Tim Smith, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angie Moore; 4 wonderful grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Smith and Trevor and Izzy Moore; 3 sisters, Cheryl Childress (Buddy), Diane Broocks, and Brenda Dyer (Charles), and numerous nieces nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Bon Secours Hospice caregivers, Tina and her team. Visitation will be held, Friday from 2pm to 8pm at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Services will be Saturday at 11am at Hardy Central Baptist Church, 4655 Darbytown Road, Henrico, Virginia, 23231. Interment to follow at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston.
