Woody Funeral Home-Parham
Dr Linda Carol Markwardt, age 79, passed into her heavenly home on April 19, after a courageous battle with liver cancer.
Linda was born to Herbert and Rita Markwardt in Chicago, Illinois, on August 10, 1944, the hottest day on record as she liked to note. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1965 from Chicago Wesley Memorial Hospital and completed her Doctorate of Medicine in Podiatry from Illinois College of Pediatric Medicine in 1977. She then moved to Northern Kentucky, opened her successful practice, and remained professionally active in Podiatry Associations.
Upon retirement, Linda moved to Richmond, Virginia to enjoy the company of her sister Laurel Chalifoux, and brother-in-law, Michael Chalifoux, her niece Noelle Dunlap, and her husband Jonathan Dunlap, her nephew Michael Chalifoux and his wife Alyssa Chalifoux, and her five beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to being a devoted friend to many, Linda was a master gardener with a keen interest in garden design and an avid nature lover who enjoyed bird-watching. She was a “mom” to many dogs over the years, whom she cherished.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Reverend Beth Wills who made it possible for Linda to spend her last years at home, and the team of caregivers who made her final years so happy. In addition, the family would like to thank Bon Secours Hospice and Our Lady of Hope’s nursing team, who cared for her so lovingly during the last weeks of her life.
A celebration of life will be held at Woody's Funeral Home, 1771 North Parham Road
Richmond, VA 23229 on Friday, April 26th at 4:00 PM with a reception following. Donations can be made in her memory to Bon Secours Hospice or the ASPCA.
