OLIVER, Laverne C., 83, of Richmond, went home peacefully to be with her Lord Friday, March 5, 2010. She passed away three days after having a sudden heart attack.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert H. Oliver Jr.; three devoted sons, Bob Oliver of Jacksonville, N.C., Jerry Oliver and his wife, Marybeth, of Midlothian, and Tim Oliver of Atlanta, Ga.; two loving grandchildren whom she loved very much, Lauren and Ryan Oliver. She also leaves behind her loving sister, Mrs. Eleanor Thomas and her husband, Robert, of Jacksonville, Fla.; several nephews, nieces and many devoted friends, including friends at Fairmount Christian Church where she was a member for many years.
She was the daughter of the late Luther and Lavada Carter who are buried at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Chesapeake, Virginia. She grew up in Portsmouth after moving from Georgia with her family when she was thirteen years old. She later moved to Richmond with her husband and sons in 1972. She retired from Retreat Hospital after almost 20 years of service where she managed accounts payable.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Fairmount Christian Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. Condolences may be made at woodyfuneralhomeparham.com.
