Jesse Ernest Walker

WALKER, Rev. Jesse Ernest McKinley , Sr. God called one of his soldiers home after 95 years of faithful service. Jesse was born the sixth of seven children in Grenada, MS to Webster and Alice Walker. He gave his life to Christ at Calvary Baptist church at an early age. After graduation from high school, he worked as an equiptment installer for Boeing Aircraft until he was drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in the 432nd division and received the Good Conduct Medal. Rev. Walker earned his B.A. at Friends University in Wichita, KS and received his master’s in theology from the University of Denver in Denver, CO. He later taught at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Livingstone College, Benedict College, Allen University and Virginia Union. After 30 years he retired from teaching and worked at McGuire VA Hospistal for 5 years until his second retirement. In addition to teaching in the classroom, he dedicated his life to teaching God’s Word. He served as pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., Friendship Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN, Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Chesterfield, VA and retired from First Baptist Manakin, in Manakin-Sabor, VA. He faithfully served as minister to the senior citizens of Quioccasin Baptist Church as was an honorary member of First United Presbyterian Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Bernice Bell Walker; children, Alice Walker-Hall, Jesse E.M. Walker, Jr. and Buenos A. Walker; grandchildren, Terryn Hall, Samuel Hall and Julia Davis; a host of family and friends. He was especially dedicated to his buddies, “The Hardee’s Group,” and his devoted friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm Thursday, August 21, 2014 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, Va. His funeral service will be held 11am Friday, August 22, 2014 at Quioccasin Baptist Church, 9011 Quioccasin Rd., Richmond, Va. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
