Brown, Jean Elizabeth (Scott) died on October 28, 2013. Jean was born in Wenatchee, WA on November 8, 1933, the third child of Leo Magnus and Mildred Estella (Paul) Scott. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brother Leo Jr. and sisters, Pauline Coe and Linda Boivin. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Colonel USAF (Ret) Ivan Doyle Brown; sister, Helen Leedy; three daughters, Rebecca Sue (Brown) Winfree and husband Ambrose and their three daughters, Noelle (Winfree) and husband Michael Lewis, Sarah (Winfree) and husband Jared Hooker, and Laura (Winfree) and husband Jorge Mendez, Roberta Karen (Brown) Samples and husband John Wayne and their son Shayne and wife Joelle, and daughter Mandi Alain, Jorja Lynn (Brown) Ewell and husband Charlie and their four daughters, Meghan (Ewell) and husband Chris Powers, Natalie (Ewell) and husband Billy Freesmeier, Lynnsie (Ewell) and husband, Chris McClellan and her son Kristian, and Aubrie Ewell. She is also survived by sons Trent Scott Brown and wife Marlies and their sons, Blake and Conner, and Brandon Doyle Brown and wife Amy and their sons Andrew and Samuel. Jean graduated from Wenatchee High School and attended Washington State College (now University) where she met Doyle. Jean and Doyle married in her hometown of Wenatchee, WA, on September 14, 1952. Since Doyle was a career Air Force officer, the family lived in many locations in the U.S. as well as in France and Okinawa. Jean was the homemaker and took pride in quickly getting settled in new locations. She became an expert in managing schedules and supporting her five children’s activities in music, dance, athletics, scouting, and school. She did extensive volunteer work in PTA, Boy Scouts, church, Meals on Wheels, elections and veterans’ hospitals. She frequently shouldered an extra burden supporting the family while her husband was away from home during his Air Force career. She continued her college studies as location and time permitted. The couple retired to Lake Anna, VA in 1994 and later moved to Midlothian, VA in 2006. Jean was active in church and was proud to belong to Bethel Baptist Church in Midlothian. Jean had an intense interest in genealogy and spent many hours in tracing family ancestors and providing genealogical information to her extended family. She was a very active member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and held many officer positions in her Louisa Courthouse Chapter. She was pleased that she was able to trace her ancestry to five Revolutionary War Patriots. Her other hobbies were cooking, gardening, and crafts. Jean loved and had great pride in her family and country. Her husband often expressed his appreciation for and pride in Jean’s support of his career and family throughout all of their 31 moves and said she was the ultimate homemaker. Jean’s attitude always was: “Whither thou goest, I will go, wherever thou lodgest I will lodge.” A memorial service will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, 1100 Huguenot Springs Road, Midlothian, VA 23113 on November 1, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. Donations may be made to Louisa Courthouse Chapter NSDAR (National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution) in memory of Jean Brown. Mail to Debbie Reid, Treasurer, 220 Apple Orchard Road, Louisa, VA 23093. Online condolences may be registered at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
