Janet was born on August 7, 1936, to Charles and Arlene Thacker in Richmond, Virginia. She spent her childhood days growing up in Richmond and later moved briefly to North Carolina after she married her husband Charles N Houston. They soon moved back to Virginia. She loved reading books, good movies, cooking, sewing and vacations with family. She loved keeping in touch with friends and family and talking about the years gone by. She especially loved the long phone conversations with her nieces’; Joyce, Brenda and Kim. She deeply appreciated and enjoyed the many visits and conversations with her friends from her church. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Janet will be greatly missed by her children Donald D. Houston (Debra), Ronald L. Houston (Edna); grandchildren Jennifer Doran (Jamey), Christopher Houston (Kristen), Troy Houston (Victoria); great-grandchildren Jay, Anna, Hannah, Owen, Wesley, Hailey and Oliver; a cherished brother Norman Thacker and several cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
Janet is predeceased by her parents Charles I. Thacker Sr. and Arlene Callahan Thacker, her husband, Charles N. Houston; grandson, Ronald Glen Houston; sister, Barbara T. Gilbert; and brother, Charles I Thacker, Jr.
Janet told all that “she had a really good life” and she was good and kind to everyone she met. She will be missed, cherished, and forever remembered.
Visitation and funeral service will be on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Washington Memorial Park.
