She is preceded in death by her parents Alsey and Azile Luther of Raleigh, N, C and Daughter –in- Law Terry Willie Compton. She is survived by her husband the Rev. Alan Compton, son Jeffrey his children Garrett, Sean, Gene (Kelly and their two children, Luke and Parker), and son Rev. Gregory (Ann), their children Ryan (Natalie), and Casey Jane. Jane is a graduate of Garner High School, Garner, N, C.; Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. In 1980, at the age of 50, Jane completed four units of Clinical Pastoral Education as a Chaplain in Residence at the University of North Carolina Medical Center. Jane taught Home Economics in Dunn, N.C., She served as a Missionary with her husband for 25 years with the International Mission Board, SBC, in Costa Rica, Chile, and Mexico City. She then utilized her Chaplaincy training as a Counselor and group leader for new missionaries at the Missionary Learning Center in Rockville, Virginia Jane was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was a trained and compassionate listener who gave of her time generously. Jane expressed her faith through her gift of music throughout her life. She was a soprano and sang in many choir, in both Spanish and English. Locally she sang in the Chancel and Golden Tones choirs of Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond, as well as the Lakewood Manor Singers. She is most certainly singing in the Heavenly Chorus right now. The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the excellent, heart-felt care given to Jane by the staff of the Health Care Center at Lakewood Retirement in Western Henrico County. Thanks also for the care provided by Legacy Hospice. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday June 22, 2017 at 12:30 p.m., in the Chapel of Derbyshire Baptist Church. The family will have a private graveside service before the Memorial at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to the Benevolent Fund of Lakewood Manor.
