Harold Bennett Carter, April 8, 1945 through August 5, 2023, on the wings of a dove, Harold was ushered through Heaven’s gate. Meeting him there were his parents, James Moss and Alpha Thomas Carter; his brother, J. T. Carter: and sister, Viola Ferguson.
He received Jesus Christ as his savior at age 28 and spent hours nightly in Bible Study and prayer. His “motto” was “God, family and Country…in that order.” His greatest pleasure was to share the love of God with others. He was known for his humorous puns and riddles that lightened faces with a smile and a chuckle, especially during difficult or sad times.
In 1964, he graduated from Appomattox High School and was proud to serve in the U. S. Army from 1964 -1967 mostly in California and South Korea. He succeeded in a 31 year career as a manager at Home Beneficial Life and Woodman of the World Life Insurance Society. He was a people person and was loved by so many. He enjoyed his life abundantly! He loved to fish, take trips with his wife, cook, study his Bible and nap!
Left with sweet memories are his wife of 45 years, Janie Carter; his three precious daughters and faithful sons-in-law, Jackie and Tony Bendall, Kelly and Joseph Bouton, and Wendy and Nick Sours; his two wonderful grandchildren and their spouses, T. J. and Amanda Bendall and Nicole and Teddy Schuster; his adorable great-grands, R. J. and Alaina and one on the way who will undoubtedly hear many stories about him. Also left to remember him are his brother, Junior Carter who took care of him like a father and his very special sister-in-law, Jane Carter; a devoted niece, Lisa Carter; and loving nephew, Michael and their families; Don Felton, Michael Shulleeta, Lorraine Mooney and Brenda Olgers were lifetime devoted friends and Rusty and Cathey Haynie were unbelievable neighbors. He was a member of Hardy Central Baptist Church family and the “Servant’s of Jesus” group there. Pastor Ken and Elizabeth Arnold and the church family carried him through his last difficult days.
We would like to thank the care team at VCU Hospital, Henrico Drs. Hospital and Hanover Health Care for their extraordinary kindness and medical care, God bless you all.
