He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Marie Woody Austin; father, Thomas C. Austin, Jr.; brother, Myers F. Austin “Bubba”; little sister, Flora A. Austin; grandmother, Florence F. Austin “Nanny”; special aunt, Clara L. Needham “Sis” and special cousin, Brenda JoAnn Eubank. He is survived by his son, David Russell “Rusty” Austin (Pam); two daughters, Victoria A. Duff (Troy) and Angela M. Austin; nine grandchildren, David, Scott, Crystal, Jennifer, Kaitlyn, Blake, Michael, Nathaniel and Charlotte Ann; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Gavin, Jude, Gage, Kaylee and Piper; special niece, Sabrina A. Conway (Danny); great-niece, Heather Conway and many other family and friends.
He served 11 years in the Army and Navy, fought in the Korean War and was a devoted member of the American Legion. He shared a lifelong love for playing sports from football, basketball and baseball, to horseshoes, bowling and golf. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and traveling amongst many other things, however, being with friends and family was what he enjoyed and loved the most. Even though he was skilled in numerous trades, he kept the family tradition alive as a painting contractor. He worked for C.W.Talley and R.L.Bulifant then retired self-employed (E.L.Austin Painting).
He was loved by so many and he will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
A visitation for Ed will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, Virginia 23231. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home with interment immediately following at Washington Memorial Park.
