 Obituario de C. Page Highfill
C. Page Highfill, 85, of Richmond, Virginia, went to be with the Lord and deceased family members on Wednesday, August 18, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was known as an architect, author, entrepreneur, inventor, artist, comedian, playwright, director, and teacher. He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Doris M. Highfill; and children, son Scott Highfill, son Marc Austin Highfill (Holly Angel), daughter Ann Page Shope, and daughter Katie Lucy (Bob); 9 grandchildren: Bryan (Sarah), Holly, Sean (Liza), Austin (Kelly), Matt (Bridgette), Riley, Davis, Sydney, and Clare and 3 great grandchildren: Eden, Weston, and Heidi; brother Jerry (Shirley) Highfill, sisters Pat (John) Purcell, and Betty Jean (Ken) Joyner; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. Page is preceded in death by parents, John and Mary Highfill, and his wife of 50 years, Kate Byrd. Page was born to John and Mary on January 29, 1937 in Richmond, Virginia. He was a 1955 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond where he played in the band. He went on to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he participated in the Cadet Corp and majored in Architecture. Upon graduating, he began working as a junior architect at the firm, Hyland and Associates. During this time, Page also attended night classes at Richmond Polytechnic Institute in working towards becoming a City Planner. In 1960, he married his beloved red-head, Kate Innes Byrd, whom he had met in 1954. They built a life around family, friends, and church. They enjoyed many years of summer trips to Myrtle Beach, picnics with neighbors, and Couples’ Bridge Club. Page and Kate were founding members of the Couples Sunday School Class at River Road Baptist Church. The church became much like a family for them. Page was involved in various committees at River Road Baptist Church and had a heart for sharing God with others. Page and Kate also spent several years at First Baptist Church. Page wrote and directed various plays and productions while at First Baptist as part of his service there. Page began his own architectural firm in the 70s and designed and renovated numerous houses, office buildings, schools, churches, fire stations, and colleges, including Hampden Sydney. In 1978, Page built and began Courtside West Tennis and Racquet Club, which is still run today by his sons, Scott and Marc, and grandson, Bryan. Page also found an interest in computers as technology began to enter the workplace in the 1980s. He studied computer programming and was a pioneer in integrating technology into architecture. He wrote manuals, how-tos, and traveled the country giving seminars on incorporating the two. In 2018, Page was awarded the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who’s Who where he was recognized for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and success he has experienced in his career. In 2011, Page was excited to marry a longtime friend and new delight, Doris Moore, whom he had known for 40 years. They spent their last years together enjoying the companionship of one another. Page was known to many as a comedian and positive light. We are forever grateful to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living, and to all his “favorites” in Terrace Club. A Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, August 21st at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd. Richmond, VA. A Memorial Service will be held the following day, Monday August 22nd at 11 AM at Woody Funeral Home Parham.
