Our mother, Beverly Zechini Anthony, also known as “Becky or Bev” to some, “Aunt Becky'' to her dear nieces and nephews and “Nana” to her grandchildren, peacefully departed from this life on January 16, 2022 with her oldest son at her side.
Beverly was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on November 2, 1948 to Arturo Umberto (AU) Zechini and Edna Williams Zechini Cousart and was the oldest of their four girls. She was a proud graduate of Holy Cross Catholic School where she was active in basketball, theater, and journalism. One of her fondest memories was a six week visit with some of her classmates to study journalism at Catholic University in Washington, DC. Her Catholic faith was very important to her and she remained connected with her fellow Holy Cross alumnae throughout her lifetime.
After her high school graduation she attended Lynchburg College and then drove out west and Lived in Barstow, CA for a few years. She talked often of the sights she saw and experiences she had along the way. She then moved back to her hometown and began her nearly 25 year career with Nationwide Insurance Company. That is where she began the proudest journey of her lifetime, giving birth to and raising her three beloved children; Shaina Leigh Toney (Tripp), Lewis Carlton Anthony Jr., and Matthew Christian Anthony. The family moved to Richmond, VA in 1992 and Beverly was sure to share her love of the city’s rich history with her children. She became Nana in 1999 when the first of her five grandsons was born.
She is survived by her mother Edna Zechini Cousart, of Lynchburg, daughter Shaina Toney (Tripp) of Mineral, VA, sons Lewis Anthony Jr., and Matthew Anthony, her sisters; Cindy Jaeger (Robin), Mary Shearer (Lee), Lisa Shores (Jerry), all of Lynchburg, VA, five grandchildren, Jacob Toney, Ryan Toney, William “Will” Toney, Owen Toney all of Mineral, Va and Derek Workman of Gladys, Va, plus many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Arturo Umberto Zechini.
The family would like to thank the physicians and nurses at Memorial Regional Medical Center for the phenomenal and dignified care that their mother received while admitted.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 29 at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 N Parham Road, Richmond, VA 23229.
