OWENS, Amy Kathleen Blackburn, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 13th, 2018, her dear husband at her bedside, after a spirited battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Allen Blackburn. Left to honor Amy and remember her love are her husband; Robert “Rusty” Owens, her son; Cole Tyler Agner, and her mother; Janice Baldwin Blackburn. She is also survived by two brothers, Anthony (Sarah) Blackburn and Greg (Leah) Blackburn.
Amy had a beautiful soul and spirit that touched so many people during her life’s journey: She graduated with honors from Douglas Freeman High School in 1984, where she was a member of the rifle guard and participated in numerous school and social activities. Amy graduated from Virginia Tech in 1987 with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science and Marketing. During her college years, Amy was a Little Sister to Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. After graduating, she was employed for AECOM and it’s predecessor companies for 25 years, ultimately achieving the title of Associate Vice President.
She was a loving, caring, thoughtful individual who always had a smile to share with others. Amy was a highly adventurous person and an avid snow skier. She particularly enjoyed outdoor activities, including camping, boating, and social events, especially winery tours, but Amy’s true passion and love was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother who gave her heart and shared her love each and every day. She was happiest when she was with her family and close friends.
Amy had a beautiful way of looking at the world and making people feel loved. Her life truly made a difference in every life she touched, and she will be remembered, and missed, by many, for a long time to come.
