Virginia, or "Sissie" as she was known to her family and good friends, grew up in rural Denton County within the German community of Blue Mound, Texas, where she attended school in the one-room Blue Mound schoolhouse. After graduating from Denton High School, she moved to Dallas and began her career in the savings and loan industry. In 1950, Virginia took a position with Republic Savings & Loan as branch manager for the Hillside Branch. She retired from Republic Savings as a vice president.
It was then in the early 1980's that she found her true passion in real estate. With her long-time friend and business partner Bill Hooper, she embarked on a successful real estate career with ETC Realty. She excelled as a commercial and residential agent and investor for more than four decades, continuing to deal in real estate up until the last weeks of her life.
But as successful as she was in real estate, her real calling was to spend time with people. Always a support to her family and friends, she could be counted on to be there when needed. Virginia loved people and people loved Virginia. She loved to laugh and she always had a funny story to tell, making it a delight to be around her.
She was happily married to James E. "Jim" Singleton for over 44 years until his death in 1999. She and Jim enjoyed a full married life together filled with family, friends, church, music, and, of course, wonderful food.
Virginia learned her joy of cooking from her mother, and she loved sharing that gift with others. Virginia came from a large close-knit family, so family time together was always a party. Her brother once told her that, "If there wasn't a party going on, Sissie would make one!"
She is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Edna, her nephew James Robert "Robb" Linenschmidt, her husband Jim Singleton, and her brother Bobby Jack Linenschmidt. She is survived by her sister-in-law Mary Linenschmidt of Dallas; her nephew Mark Linenschmidt and his wife Susan, and her great nieces Jordan, Taylor, and Lauren and great nephew Luke of League City, Texas; her uncle Calvin Ganzer of Farmers Branch, Texas; her godson David Hooper and his wife Linda, of Argyle, Texas; and a multitude of cousins and close friends.
Virginia was a long-time member of Wilshire Baptist Church and a life member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the charity of choice.
