Vernon was born in Dallas on August 2, 1940 to Vernon C. And Dorys Walker. He grew up in McKinney, Texas. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1958 and then went to Texas Tech University where he met the love of his life, Suzie Webber. They were married on August 25, 1962.
Vernon spent the entirety of his work career with Blue Cross Blue Shield Texas, retiring in 1999 as Chief Financial Officer.
Vernon and Suzie lived in the Lake Highlands area of Dallas with their two children, Lisa and Wayne.
Vernon was a loyal friend to all and was always armed with a good joke to make you smile. He was involved in several organizations and clubs including CCA (Coastal Conservation Association), SOB’s (fishing club) and the Uptown Exchange Club of Dallas.
He was an avid coastal fisherman, loved supporting his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and cared for all creatures great and small, feeding a host of feral cats, raccoons, possums, and peacocks throughout the years.
Vernon is predeceased by his parents, Vernon and Dorys, his son, Wayne and his brother, Bill.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Suzie, his daughter, Lisa (Prusha), son-in-law, David and his greatest legacies and joys in life, his grandchildren, Brynn, Evan and Evan’s wife, Hope. Vernon (Uncle Butch) is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members and his favorite kitties, Bebe and Izzy.
His personality was immense and he will be so missed. We await a grand reunion one day in the kingdom of God’s promise.
