His parents were Joyce and Frank Moore. Lonnie graduated from Waynoka, OK, High School where he participated in sports, band, student government, and Future Farmers of America. He was active in Boy Scouts, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout, scouting's highest honor.
After graduating from high school in 1966, he attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970, then a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1972. He was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity all six years at OSU. Also, while at OSU, he served as president of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association.
After graduating from OSU, he moved to Irving, TX where he met his wife, Jean, and they were married on May 5, 1973. Lonnie and Jean joined the United Methodist Church of Preston Hollow later in 1973. Lonnie led many Disciple Bible Study classes, served on many committees, and also served as Church Lay Leader and Church Council Chairman. While a member there, one of his greatest joys was singing in the choir.
Lonnie practiced small animal medicine for 44 years. His hospital was accredited by the America Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). He was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Dallas County Veterinary Medical Association (DCVMA), and Dallas Business Men's Association (DBA).
Lonnie and Jean spent many happy times traveling, but their favorite place was Hawaii, and they vacationed on all the islands. Eventually they bought a timeshare on Kauai at Poipu, their favorite island, and made many happy memories there.
Lonnie is survived by Jean, his wife of 44 years, his stepdaughters, Gayle and Cynthia (Howard) and stepson, Kenneth. Grandchildren, Christopher (Megan), April (Phillip), Veronica, Jalyn and Maddy. Great-grandchildren, Christian, Olive and Pace. Two sisters, Sherri Smith (David) of Frederick, Maryland, Nancy Lewis (David) of Tallahassee, Florida. Also two Aunts, many cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Lonnie's life will be held at the United Methodist Church of Preston Hollow, 6315 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75230 on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
A graveside service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Soper Cemetery in Hugo, Oklahoma.
Everyone who knew and loved Lonnie and would like to celebrate his life is invited.
