James Robert Hamilton, age 83, passed away on January 2, 2023, in Dallas, TX. He was born to James Robert and Lucille Avery Hamilton in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX, in 1957 and received his Chemical Engineering degree from Texas A&M in 1963.
Bob worked for Dow Chemical in Beaumont, TX, for two years and for Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, PA for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He designed and managed start-up air separation projects in the US and abroad.
Bob and his wife, Sylvia, moved to Boerne, TX, in 2003 where he became a certified Master Naturalist, enjoyed the Nature Club, and belonged to the San Antonio Astronomy Club. He built a two-story A-frame home in the mountains of PA as his base for hunting and fishing. He also built small houses for his telescopes in both PA and Boerne.
In Boerne Bob was a faithful member of St. John's Anglican Church which held a special place in his heart.
He is predeceased by his parents Bob and Lucille Hamilton and brother-in-law John Messer of Corpus Christi.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and two step-sons, Ron Bookman and Bill Bookman of Richardson, TX; a sister Claudia Messer; two nephews CAPT Sam Messer USN (Coelle) and Will Messer (Mari); one niece Emily Messer (Lawrence); cousin Mary Dixon (Hubert) and numerous friends.
Bob died peacefully with Sylvia and his step-sons by his side.
The family wishes to thank Faith Presbyterian-T. Boone Pickens Hospice Center, Dallas, TX, for their excellent and compassionate care for Mr. Hamilton. Arrangements for his burial are to be announced. Online condolences may be written and shared below.
