Huby A Jones of Richardson, Texas, passed away on June 7th, 2022, five days shy of his 93rd birthday. Grandson of two Baptist preachers, he was born in Palestine, Texas, to Huby, Sr. and Eunice Jones on June 12, 1929. Huby graduated from Judson High School in East Texas.
As part of a program for entering the Navy upon graduation, Huby attended Kilgore Junior College where he received a degree in Chemistry. He later received a post-baccalaureate degree in Physics from the Navy.
He met Peggy Holder of Ft. Worth, Texas, while stationed in San Diego. They married in Ft. Worth on February 23, 1952.
Huby served in the Navy during the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War, flying AD-6 Skyraiders off the USS Forrestal and training other aviators in the SNJ. His last four years he served on the Admiral’s staff of CINCPACFLT at Pearl Harbor. In 1968, after 20 years in the Navy, he retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander and moved his family to Texas where he began his second career as a Technical Writer at Texas Instruments in Dallas. He retired in 1992.
Huby was a leader and volunteer in the Richardson Host Lions Club as well as an ordained Elder, Deacon, and Stephen’s Minister in the Presbyterian Church, first at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church and later at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church. His other calling was fixing cars for his kids and grandkids. His passions were fiddling with electronics, digging through genealogical records, learning about American history, dabbling in videography, attending squadron reunions, watching air shows, exploring the country with family on road trips, listening to gospel music, championing the Cowboys and the Texas Rangers, watching birds from the kitchen window, and being involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father, Huby, Sr; his mother, Eunice; his brother, Joe; and his sister, Emma Nan.
He is survived by Peggy, his wife of more than 70 years; his four children — Mike Jones; Richard Jones and wife, Elsy; Jeanan Jackson and husband, John; and Laura Jones; his grandchildren — David, Steven, Mark, Liana, and Thomas; his great grandchildren — Brodie, Skylar, Gavin, Trent, Jayanna, and Carter; and his great great granddaughter, Mei; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family and friends who loved him and will miss his spiritual guidance, his dry wit, his mechanical skills, and his generous & loving nature.
Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, June 19th, at Sparkman Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue. A family Burial Service will be held on Monday, June 20th, at the National Cemetery in Grand Prairie followed by a family & friends Memorial Service at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church in Richardson at 3:00 pm.
